Our School

Llwynypia Primary School serves the village community of Llwynypia, Tonypandy, situated in the authority of Rhondda Cynon Taf. The catchment area of the school is principally the local village community, although family connections mean a number of pupils living outside our catchment area attend the school.

At Llwynypia Primary School we strive to provide an educational experience of the highest standard, while instilling our pupils with the self-belief and self-confidence to achieve their highest potential. Our school motto ‘Roots to Grow and Wings to Soar!’ is reflected in our daily learning and teaching and we aim to ensure personalised learning meets the needs of all pupils.

The accommodation consists of two buildings. The Infant building, housing Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and year 2 classes.  It has a hall and an intervention room. The Junior building has a hall, a Wellbeing room, Staffroom, four classrooms, two intervention rooms and the Headteacher’s office. The main office is also situated in the Junior building. The school building also has a Community Room, which accommodates Little Nightingales Day Nursery. There is a separate Dining Hall in one of the lower floor areas of the Junior building, which also houses a Breakfast Club. The school grounds have a small garden, two soft surface areas and tarmac play areas. We have play equipment, and 2 outdoor classrooms, all well maintained by the Caretaker. The school makes good use of the surrounding area for learning experiences e.g. King George’s playing fields.

Llwynypia is in many ways an established community, with many parents, grandparents and a number of the Governing Body being former pupils of the school. At Llwynypia Primary, the curriculum and ethos, wherever possible, will reflect and celebrate what is distinctive about life in Wales and helps pupils to acquire a sense of belonging. The Welsh affinity is highlighted throughout local projects, such as The Tonypandy Riots, and all staff and pupils are proud of their school and it being at the centre of the community.

Our school aims are founded on the shared values and ambitions of the school and its wider community. They give a framework from which priorities in the School Improvement plan will be developed. Our ultimate aim is to develop

  • Ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives
  • Enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work
  • Ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world
  • Healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.
